New Appointment Despite Tough Market

JK Property Consultants LLP is delighted to announce the appointment of Northumbria University graduate Thomas Conneely on a training contract to become a chartered surveyor.
The appointment is significant both for the firm, which continues to pick up new business, and the professional sector, which has seen a drop in the number of graduate trainee places.
Kevan Carrick, principal at JK, said: "Such an appointment is important to both JK and the surveying profession, which needs to bring forward young people with good academic achievement.
"Universities have continued to produce surveying graduates throughout the recession but firms have contracted in tough economic conditions and training places have been cut."
"A graduate must be employed throughout their RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to qualify as a chartered surveyor, so it is vital that firms restart and expand their training programmes."
"If not, then we will face a shortage of qualified professionals in the next few years, just when the economy is due to begin recovering."
Thomas recently graduated from Northumbria University with a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in Estate Management. Following a successful work placement in 2010, he graduated in July 2011 with academic accolades that included the Northern Rock Award for Top Student and the Telereal Trillium Valuation Prize.
Thomas will be working closely with Kevan Carrick, undertaking a range of work including Landlord and Tenant advice, Development Representation and Agency.
Originally from Tynemouth, Thomas is vice-chairman of the RICS matrics (North East) group, which supports students, trainees and RICS members with less than 10 years post qualification experience.
While at university, he was a Reserve Officer of The Royal Air Force, stationed at RAF Leeming as part of Northumbrian Universities Air Squadron, and he is currently a volunteer instructor teaching sport to Air Cadets and helping them through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.
