Kevan Carrick joined The Northern Way in a discussion at the House of Commons with the All Party Urban Development Group in consultation on their report “Next Steps: A Regeneration Agenda for the Next Government”. The All Party Group of MPs have, with research from Centre for Cities, produced guidance for the next government. The paper is “a curate’s egg”, good in parts, bad in others. It recommends public sector investment needs to increase the housing supply targeted at areas where need is greatest, the implication here is that is the South East.

Predictions
The news for all connected with commercial property has been poor for the last few months. Capital values are forecast to fall further in early part of 2009. Rents are showing signs of falling with such new lettings in the market being at a much lower level than even a few months ago and incentives such as rent free periods growing. It is in the foreseeable future going to be an ‘occupiers market’ with further rental falls and softer terms. It is also forecast the voluntary provisions of the ‘Code of Practice for Commercial Leases in England and Wales’ will be more readily adopted. There still remain opportunities to be grasped.
