A multi-million pound scheme is underway to transform Darlington’s Bank Top station into a new transport hub, with JK Property Consultants commissioned to advise on the development.

The new hub, which will be completed by 2025, will combine new platforms for local and HS2/Northern Powerhouse rail services, retail and commercial space, and residential developments.

Kevan Carrick, principal of JK Property Consultants, explained: “As well as remodelling Darlington’s station, the Darlington 2025 project will bring improved public spaces, new homes and high spec commercial and leisure spaces to the centre of Darlington.

“Our role involved advising on the viability of the proposed mixed-use development and its linkages to the town centre and the adjoining Central Park development, as well as advising on the masterplan for this ambitious project.”

Darlington 2025 is forecast to bring 98,500 sq m of commercial space as well as 1,500 new homes, more than 3,000 direct and indirect new jobs, and £130 million in GVA.

The development will facilitate new high speed services between Darlington and major cities, reducing journey times to London by nearly 30 minutes.

“Darlington is the birthplace of the modern railway, and 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the first passenger rail journey, from Darlington to Stockton, so it’s fitting that we celebrate that and create a state-of-the-art transport hub which will provide a gateway to the Tees Valley.”
